how to say "anything" and "as long as"

Postby matt » Thu Oct 02, 2003 1:57 am

Hi

I was wondering how do you say 'anything' in cantonese, that is in terms of 'i'll eat anything" or "i'll eat anything but chicken." how would one say "as long as" such as in the sentence..."i'll eat anything as long as it's not chicken" ~ thanks~

to say 'i'll eat anything' you could say --- ngo5 mat1 dou1 wui5 sik6.

to say 'i'll eat anything but chicken' you could say --- cheui4 jo2 gai1 yuk6

ngo5 mat1 dou1 wui5 sik6. cheui4 jo2 means apart from so it means apart from chicken i'll eat anything.

a more formal way to say it would be

cheui4 jo2 gai1 yuk6 ji1 ngoi6 ngo5 mat1 dou1 wui5 sik6

ji1 ngoi6 goes with cheui4 jo2. it means outside of

i hope that makes sense and can help.

Tuan
